You might not be able to read Russian. Fear not, we’ll translate . . .

This blog post’s title – Мир не без добрых людей – means The world is not without good people. It might not always seem to be the case, but kindness and compassion are all around us. In Rhode Island, in Russia and in all places in between.

Everywhere, there are people seeking to assist others. To help and support. To spread love and tenderness. To make life a little better for those in need. To connect . . .

Here at OM®, we express such things in our art. Elsewhere – all over the Earth, in fact – methods more prosaic, measures small and simple are being used to make our planet a more harmonious place.

Take, for instance, a short film that we stumbled upon just a little earlier. It originates in Russia, hence our impromptu language lesson, and it proves that the world is not without good people. Far from it, in fact . . .

In Russia, it has become commonplace for drivers to attach small cameras to their cars. These dash cams are used to document road accidents, crashes and crimes and are being used to fight insurance fraud. Quite unintentionally, they’ve also been recording some quite remarkable deeds.

Thanks to a YouTube user known as ArkadiYM93, we’ve discovered that acts of selfless kindness and compassion are habitual on Russia’s roads. Just click below to take a look at his fabulous film . . .

People helping people, and all captured on camera. Their actions, in isolation, might seem mundane. But these little things – helping someone to cross the road, pushing another’s car, saving a stricken animal and even (an extreme case, this) stopping to rescue a small child from the roadside – are the things that count, the things that matter and the things that restore our faith in mankind.

Translated, the captions read, ‘The world isn’t without good people. Any act can become one of great kindness if it is done selflessly. When was the last time you did a good deed?’ It’s a thought-provoking question and one that we’d like to pose again this morning.

This video has, in recent days, gone viral. The comments that its viewers have left speak volumes and show that such things can and do have a ripple effect . . .

‘This is so inspiring, it made me want to go out and start helping people,’ one wrote. ‘Maybe there’s hope for mankind,’ added another. Other comments have included, ‘Russia is a cold place, but there’s still warmth in the heart of a stranger’, ‘Some faith in humanity has been restored’ and ‘Good work humans – I like you sometimes’. This all because some kind-hearted individuals took the time to help someone less fortunate. It proves a point . . .

That, as Rachel Scott once noted, ‘People will never know how far a little kindness can go’ and that ‘If one person can go out of their way to show compassion, it will start a chain reaction of the same’.

That chain reaction has begun. It’s up to us to keep it going. Мир не без добрых людей . . .
