You’ll all be aware, we’re quite certain, that here at OM®, connection is our thing.
Common interests, shared goals, the invisible thread that binds us as human beings, this subject – inexplicable though it might be – is one that has always fascinated us. Lives are linked, stories intertwined, there can be no doubt. It is this that our OMs represent, for even though we’re all individual souls, we are all connected and we do crave the same things. Love, peace, happiness and the like. The things we call Universal Wishes.
From time to time, we’re fortunate enough to meet someone else treading a similar path, someone on our wavelength. Such an encounter occurred recently, when Dr Gary Young addressed an audience right here in Rhode Island. We were fortunate enough to be in that audience . . .
Dr Young is the man behind Young Living, which over the last two decades has grown to become the largest privately-owned Essential Oils producer on Earth. His success, it strikes us, is built upon the same things that inspire our own efforts here at OM®. Touching lives. Helping people. Shining a light on the path ahead . . .
Inspiring, educating and setting an example. Empowering and promoting positive thought. Uplifting and energizing. Leading.
Underpinning it all, is a passion for nature. There is little in this life that connects us – as people – more than that.
It is a passion that has long driven Dr Young, dating back to his teenage days, when he left his home in the mountains of Idaho to start a new life as a logger and rancher in British Columbia.
Here, in the great Canadian wilderness, he discovered fulfillment, living a simple life in an untamed environment. Such contentment didn’t last long.
You see, aged 24, he suffered a serious logging accident that left him paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair. Depression and helplessness took their toll and, for a time, his prospects appeared bleak. But through sheer strength, willpower and an unshakable faith, he managed to turn his life around.
Refusing to quit, fighting through the pain and showing that, with enough belief, anything is possible, he got back on his feet and, once more, taught himself to walk. It took time, it hurt and it wasn’t easy, but he did it. There’s a lesson for us all, no matter our personal troubles, in there.
So began an interest in healing, in natural remedies and therapies and in nutrition that, in time, led to Young Living being established in 1993. From a single organic herb farm and distillation center in Idaho, the operation has grown to a global scale. Yet the founding principles remain intact, for this is a firm that remains true to its humble roots . . .
It’s Vision, to ‘bring Young Living Essential Oils to every home on Earth’. It’s Mission, to ‘champion nature’s living energy by fostering a community of healing and discovery, while inspiring individuals to wellness, purpose and abundance’.
Here at OM®, we’re part of that community and we couldn’t be more inspired. Talk of ‘nature’s gift’ and ‘transformation’ is right up our street, for through it all runs the thing that drives all our efforts. That thing is connection and, once again, we’ve discovered a common cause.
Therapeutic power, mental clarity, faith in the future, action, accomplishment and reconnecting with feelings of strength, these are the things that Dr Young likes to talk about and the things that, here in our studio, we like to hear being discussed.
The growing demand for pure Essential Oils – not the chemically-altered and adulterated ones (these often ineffectual and sometimes harmful) that Dr Young decided to take a stand against in 1993 – suggests that, in this, we’re far from alone.
To listen to Dr Young speak was a great privilege and it’s our hope that, in sharing this, we can help more people to connect, to discover nature’s gift and to take a step towards wellness and fulfillment. Together, with nature on our side, there’s nothing we can’t achieve . . .
