It’s called the Elephant House.
It’s situated on the bustling George IV Bridge.
There’s a quaint back room that overlooks the imposing walls of Edinburgh Castle.
Here, there once sat a nobody. Her name was Joanne Rowling.
Not long divorced, a stubborn single mother struggling to make ends meet on meagre state benefits poured her heart and soul into a project that no-one could have expected to make such an astonishing impact.
These days, Joanne is better known as JK.
That project was Harry Potter.
It’s hard to be a nobody – especially in the fierce world of publishing, where rejection is a common theme for first-time authors, and no reputation often means no chance.
It’s a painfully-long process, but as that old motivational saying goes, good things take time.
There’s another quote that inspires us here at Legends of OM®: be patient and trust your journey.
Joanne Rowling did just that.
Yes, it took time. But she got there in the end.
This is a lesson that Miquette, creator of Legends of OM®, has learned as she continues along a long road that seems forever winding.
To be quite clear, we’re not suggesting that Miquette is the next JK Rowling – or that another Harry Potter is about to pour from her pen.
But like the esteemed author before her, she too is starting from scratch; a nobody, trying to beat the odds, to remain patient and to negotiate a road that is obstacle-strewn. It isn’t easy, and progress is slow, at times painfully so. But in the journey, we trust, even if there is a great distance still to travel.
Miquette’s manuscript, rightly titled ‘Legends of OM’, has taken so long to finish that we suspect some don’t believe it’ll ever see the light of day. It’s true, the process hasn’t been simple, but slow and steady wins the race, or so at least we hope.
Recent inspiration has come from Tabitha Lord, a dear friend and successful self-published author, whose sage advice – “just write” – has given a lagging project fresh impetus.
New Year, no Fear, new Hope? For sure.
The manuscript is written, the secrets shared, the legend told and now we’re knocking on doors…
Just like JK Rowling and countless others have done before us.
Our respective projects might differ, but our hopes and dreams are the same.
To quote Robert Redford, ‘Storytellers broaden our minds, engage, provoke, inspire, and, ultimately, connect us’.
For those with the most creative minds, the obstacles might delay, but they’ll never deter.
Because great stories demand to be told.
Because those able to tell them will always find a way to be heard.
‘Just write’ has become the mantra here, whilst another motivational saying continues to strike a chord.
Everything comes to you at the right time. Be patient.
We have no doubt that JK Rowling herself would approve.
We Are All Connected
Happy 2020 – The Year of the OM!
